Because he always wanted to attend school alongside his older brother, Baha says he began his education early. Baha enrolled in Nairobi High School in 2013, but he lost his mother that same year. As a result, he was forced to transfer to Chania Boys High School in order to be near his older brother and attend school together. However, he transferred to Ufanisi Senior School in his fourth year, where he took my KSCE. Baha, a determined teenager with a level head, graduated from high school in the last class of 2016, earning an amazing B+ on his KCSE at the age of just 16.

Baha admits he never had it smooth growing up and he had to find ways of surviving with his only sibling Mungai Mbaya, who is two years older than him. Baha’s darkest moment was in 2013 when he lost his mum to cancer. He was then a form one student at Nairobi School.  Just like Baha, his mum Beth Nyambura Mbaya was a popular actress and was popularly known by her screen name in Mother-in-law, Wanade. After his mother’s demise, Baha transferred from Nairobi School to Chania Boy’s in Thika so that he would be with his brother who was a student at the same school.

Baha revealed in an interview with a local newspaper how difficult life had been for him and his brother. He was still in school, but he was forced to take on parental duties. They supported their elderly grandmother, who serves as their guardian, by making a living as actors together with his brother, who performs in a local production of Junction Juniors. Before he was deported back to Kenya in 2011, Baha's father was absent in the US.

Speaking to People Daily, Baha describes how his mother and father both passed away within two years of one another, forcing him to assume parental duties at a young age. He and his older brother, Mungai Mbaya, were fortunate to both be actors and be able to support themselves as well as their elderly grandmother, who is also their guardian.

Baha transferred Beth's school from the prestigious but pricey Nairobi School to his brother's Chania Boys High School in Thika so they could support one another during the difficult times.
