Dreams are frequently a reflection of one's reality; it's no surprise that his popular song "Like a Dream" described so much of his life! Simon Peter, a.k.a. Hopekid, discovered his passion for music in primary school and began writing music because he lacked the financial means to pursue his dream. He had no idea where this would lead him.
Hopekid was born and raised in Kayole, eventually becoming the family's 'kid'. He enrolled in Kayole's Dawabu Primary School, where he began writing songs and performing them for his classmates. His parents and friends encouraged him to pursue his musical interests because he was so talented at such a young age.
His secondary school years at Race Course also gave him the opportunity to express his creative side, as he participated in theatre festivals with Mashairi and pursued his musical passion. He went on to study at the Buruburu Institute of Fine Arts, where he honed his fashion and design skills. He intended to manufacture and customize his own clothing once he became a major musical brand.
Hopekid was trying to break into the Kenyan music scene when he met Mr. Googz from the hit song "Wasee tumetoka Githurai." He began with Gospel Hip Hop and progressed to Zouk music.
