Musalia Mudavadi is the current prime minister of Kenya. He began his education at Nairobi Primary School, then moved on to Jamhuri and Nairobi School for his A-levels before enrolling at the University of Nairobi for his Bachelor of Arts (Land Economics).
Mudavadi was elected as an MP for the first time in 1989, following the death of his father, Mr Moses Mudavadi.
He was elected in the Sabatia constituency unopposed and was re-elected in 1992, 1997, and 2007.
Soon after, he was appointed Minister of Supplies and Marketing, a position he held until 1992, when he was promoted to Minister of Finance, a position he held from 1993 to 1997.
Between 2001 and 2002, when he was elevated to the position of Vice President, he also served as Minister of Agriculture, Transport, and Communication.
He was Vice President for three months, the shortest tenure in Kenyan history.
In October 2002, he was chosen Vice President to replace the late George Saitoti, whom Moi had fired in a succession conflict when he chose a different candidate.
Mr Mudavadi made a comeback during the campaign for the new Constitution in 2005. He joined the NO camp, which was opposed to the text proposed by the Kibaki administration.
The vote was won by the camp. Mr Mudavadi was Mr Odinga's running mate in the 2007 presidential election, but they were defeated by late former President Mwai Kibaki.
He was a member of the national reconciliation committee that negotiated for peace following the bloody events of the post-election violence in 2007/08, and he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Local Government in the 2008/13 Grand Coalition Government.
He switched from ODM to his United Democratic Forum (UDF), through which he ran for president in 2013, finishing third.
Mudavadi is married to Tessy and has three children: Moses, Michael, and Maryanne. Her full name is Tessie Shangatti Mudavadi.
Tessie met Musalia at a public fundraiser for a school in Lugari. On November 17, 1991, the pair married.
She is very active in cancer awareness. Tessie also serves as a trustee for the Mudavadi Memorial Foundation Trust Fund.
Tessie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011.
She was treated and is now fully recovered.
Musalia's three children are Moses, Michael, and Maryanne, and she is their mother.
Moses Mudavadi is the eldest of the Mudavadi siblings. Although Moses prefers to stay out of the spotlight, he is known to harbor political ambitions and frequently accompany his father to rallies.
Michael Mudavadi is the second of two children. He went to university.
Maryanne Mudavadi is the veteran politician's last child. Maryanne has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Sussex.
She worked as an intern at CPF Financial Services and First Assurance Kenya Limited.
