Muslim Ali, alias Presenter Ali, is one of the new breed of freelance journalists challenging traditional media outlets. His grasp of the Swahili language, as well as the ease with which he conducts interviews, has made him one of Kenya's most popular content makers.
He was born in Mombasa on April 4, 1997, and spent part of his childhood in Nairobi. He is the third child of a family of three. Fatuma Shaban, his mother, is a nursery school teacher.
He attended Makueni's Kiambani Primary School before moving on to Ofafa Jericho High School in Makadara.

Career

While still in school, he developed an interest in journalism. He wished to work as a Swahili news reporter. This urge grew stronger when he met David Mbatia, one of Citizen TV's executive producers.

He was urged to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning after graduating from high school. He enrolled at the University of Nairobi for the course (UoN).

In 2016, he met a man with a camera and a tripod just outside the gates of UoN. They struck up a chat and later swapped phone numbers. One day, the man contacted to tell him about a job chance at a nearby station. He learned a lot about media there, including video editing and shooting.

In 2017, he began working as a news presenter for Y254 Channel, where he remained until August 2018. He left Y254 to work for Switch TV, where he hosted the East Africa Base Show.

In 2018, Ali chose to become a YouTube video creator. He has interviewed a wide range of people, including top celebrities and repentant felons in the country. Ali's YouTube channel currently has over 250k subscribers. His videos have received hundreds of thousands of views. It helps that he occasionally concentrates on hot topics and uses catchy YouTube names.
