He dropped out of the Venice Marathon in October due to stomach issues, but he was determined not to waste his training for the distance and instead signed up for the Florence Marathon in November. Chebet was among the top runners until the 30 km mark of the 2010 Rome City Marathon, when he dropped out. In his first race in the Southern Hemisphere, he finished second at Australia's Gold Coast Marathon. He came close to winning the Padua race for the second time in 2011.
